 Building with 4 above and 5 underground levels, with a total area of 14.000m2,at the Courts Square in the center of Chania.The parking is electronically controlled consisting of cubical shaped parking places, a fact that prohibited the use of shear walls in both direction. For this reason diagonal steel members are provided to the floors above ground, including friction dampers.

6. OPERA THEATER OF CORFU

 Opera theater for 1.100 persons covering about 14.500 m2, in six levels. The building is made mainly of concrete, and the roofs are steel structures.

 The main roof is circular with a diameter of 32 m, and is made of one main and one auxiliary “compression rings”, and of one “tension ring” at the perimeter.

The preliminary design is submitted for competition among pre-selected design offices.

Γιάννης Μαρνέρης συμμετείχε στο 16ο Πανευρωπαϊκό Συνέδριο Αντισεισμικής Μηχανικής τον Ιούνιο στην Θεσσαλονίκη, όπου παρουσίασε την πρωτότυπη εργασία του με θέμα “Application of the PARSANT method to a masonry building”. Πρόκειται για την εφαρμογή της μεθόδου σε κτίρια από φέροντες τοίχους, με μετατροπή των τοιχωμάτων ΠΑΡΣΑΝΤ σε στοιχεία απορρόφησης σεισμικής ενέργειας. Για τον σκοπό αυτό απαιτήθηκε η ανάπτυξη μίας συσκευής από ένα σύστημα γραναζιών, ονομαζόμενη M.H.D. (Magnifier of Horizontal Displacements), η οποία μεγεθύνει τις παραμορφώσεις του κτιρίου 5 φορές, πριν αυτές εφαρμοσθούν στα τοιχώματα ΠΑΡΣΑΝΤ.

Η πρόσφατη ανάπτυξη των συσκευών “μεγέθυνσης των οριζόντιων παραμορφώσεων” των κτιρίων, όπως αυτές μεταφέρονται στα πρόσθετα μεταλλικά συστήματα δυσκαμψίας αποτελεί μία τομή στο θέμα αυτό σε διεθνές επίπεδο. Με την χρήση των συσκευών αυτών M.H.D. (Magnifier of Horizontal Deflections) η εφαρμογή των αποσβεστήρων γίνεται πιο αποτελεσματική και επί πλέον είναι δυνατή για πρώτη φορά η εφαρμογή τους σε κτίρια από φέροντες τοίχους, παρά το γεγονός ότι τα κτίρια αυτά εμφανίζουν πολύ μικρές οριζόντιες παραμορφώσεις.

      Οι μέθοδοι αυτοί εφαρμόζονται σε κτίρια με βλάβες, σε κτίρια για τα οποία αναζητείται η σεισμική τους αναβάθμιση, σε περιπτώσεις προσθηκών που δεν προβλέπονται από την αρχική μελέτη, σε περιπτώσεις αλλαγής χρήσης κτιρίων με ανάγκη μεγαλύτερων φορτίων κλπ.
